Manrose inline fan replaced in the loft and a new outside light installed — two jobs completed in a single visit for a great regular customer. Plus a quick return trip to retrieve a loft hatch cup that got left behind. We both saw the funny side.

Gregg is a regular customer — always a pleasure to work for. This visit was a two-parter: replace the existing inline fan in the loft with a new Manrose unit, and fit a new outside light while I was there.
Both jobs went smoothly. The inline fan sits in the loft space, connected to flexible aluminium duct — it handles extraction for the bathroom below. The old unit had reached the end of its life, so in went a new Manrose with fresh connections and everything tested before I left.
Inline fans are a neat solution — the motor sits remotely in the loft rather than in the bathroom ceiling, which means quieter operation in the room below and easier access for maintenance. The Manrose unit was mounted on a platform in the loft, with the flexible duct reconnected to the existing spigots and all wiring terminated correctly at the PCB.
The wiring on an inline fan like this includes live, neutral, earth, and a switched live from the bathroom light — so the fan runs when the light is on and overruns for a set period after. All connections checked, fan tested, job done.
While I was on site, I also fitted a new outside light — a straightforward job but one that needs doing properly. Outdoor fittings need to be correctly rated for external use, properly sealed, and connected to an RCD-protected circuit. All done and tested before leaving.
Every job has a story. On this one, my boy was with me — and when we packed up and left, the loft hatch cup got left behind. Gregg noticed, gave me a call, and I nipped back to put it back up. We both had a good laugh about it. These things happen — what matters is you sort it out, which we did.
