How the Job Came About
A local builder working on a full bathroom renovation in Staines needed a reliable electrician for the second-fix stage. The bathroom had been stripped back and rebuilt from scratch — new tiling, new sanitaryware, new layout — and the electrical work needed to be completed to a standard that matched the quality of the rest of the finish.
The centrepiece of the bathroom was a high-specification smart mirror — the kind of unit that does considerably more than reflect. This one came with integrated Bluetooth speakers for music or podcasts, a full perimeter LED lighting system with adjustable colour temperature, and a built-in toothbrush holder with its own charging point. It required a dedicated mains connection, correctly positioned and neatly concealed behind the mirror.

The Work Carried Out
Smart mirrors of this type require a mains supply that is correctly positioned behind the mirror — close enough to connect cleanly, but concealed so that no cables are visible once the mirror is mounted. The supply was run from the bathroom circuit, with the connection point positioned precisely to align with the mirror's rear entry point.
Bathroom electrical work is subject to the zone regulations set out in BS 7671 — the rules that govern which types of equipment can be installed at which distances from a bath or shower. The mirror's position was confirmed to be within the correct zone for a mains-connected fitting, and all wiring was carried out in accordance with those requirements.
The mirror was mounted, connected and tested on completion. The LED lighting, Bluetooth pairing and toothbrush charging point were all confirmed working before sign-off. The installation was certified with a minor works certificate, giving the builder the documentation needed for the client handover pack.
The protective film visible in the photos is standard practice on high-spec fittings during a building project — it stays on throughout the works to protect the surface from dust, paint and accidental scratches, and is peeled off by the builder as the very last step before the client walks in.

Why Bathroom Electrics Need a Qualified Electrician
